photoPlease join us at any of our pubs to celebrate a quarter of a century traveled for Terminator Stout, which turns 25 years old on Friday, November 19, 2010.

photoTerminator's origins can be traced to the Hillsdale Brewery & Public House, most likely brewed on a blustery, cold day not unlike today. The memories of the first batch are fuzzy for those who might shed light on the actual specifics of that original brew. Ancient texts show us that Terminator pre-dates both Hammerhead and Ruby, and was in fact the 12th beer ever brewed at the Hillsdale, making it the 12th batch of beer brewed by McMenamins period. Twelve is a pretty cool number, laden with symbolism and cosmic intrigue, making the ebony liquid's longevity even more fascinating for those who are moved by such happenstance occurrences....

photoTerminator Stout is dark as a moonless November night and rich as a decadent dessert. The stout has evolved from its less than obvious early origins to the favored full-bodied and flavor-packed company staple which draws its robust character from kiln-baked Black Barley, Munich and Crystal Malt in addition to is base of Great Western Pale. Take a sip and experience a wide array of toasted, chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavors with just a hint of Cascade hops blessing every pint. The devoted swear by it, and it remains one of our top-selling ales year after year.

photoBut enough ruminating and back to the birthday itself, which is this Friday (11/19/2010): In addition to the special anniversary pricing on pints (two bucks), bottles (four bucks) and online Terminator attire and merchandise (20% off; promo code: TERMINATOR)photo, keep a lookout for some special versions of the portly company standard including (but not limited to) the following:

• Hogshead Whiskey barrel-aged Terminator that Crystal brewers Graham and Jeff cooked up will be available at Ringlers Pub downtown.

• Charlton at the High Street Brewery in Eugene will be serving Terminator Stout cask-style via beer engine as well as on nitro draft.

• The good folks at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse invite you to join them for some cask-conditioned Terminator served at Imbrie Bar.

• Hillsdale will have a special cake baked at the Edgefield Bakery made from (you guessed it) Terminator Stout that is simply sublime when combined with (you guessed it again) a pint of Terminator Stout. A piece of the cake is free if you ask for it, which makes it even more delicious.

Sorry I mised the party. I was trying to pull a life together in Guatemala. The first effort failed ande was a very difficult and depressing endevor. I'm sure, hoever, that had I been able to chill out with a few tall, cool glasses of Terminator, the road would have been much smother and easear to endure.

If anyone is on their way to Gutemala, feel free to drop in and visit me in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. Bring me a few terminators and you can stay at my little bed and breakfast one night free for each bottle you smuggle in.
Just ask for William at the artecenia at the main park.
