David MayfieldBearded and bespectacled, David Mayfield doesn't initially look like the type of performer who could whip a crowd into a frenzy. But with his swiveling hips, sexy moves (ironic, or not?) and loopy charm, Mayfield exudes an awkward charisma that elicits hoots 'n' hollers. Coupled with his heartfelt croon, his Paste magazine-friendly mélange of choppy country, lighting-fast roots noodling and faux gospel, his stage show is nouveau-Nashville burlesque; he teases you with his masterful lyrics about Jesus, music and love, love, love, then blows you away with a hard-charging, twanging jam. We couldn't ask for a more fun, more engaging, more unique band for the Great Northwest Music Tour, which kicks off tonight, Wednesday, March 16, at the Old St. Francis School (for full schedule, go here).
